Big Things Happening

Montgomery AGM Presentation cropped

Presentation of a Provincial check from our MLA, Donna Kennedy-Glans (left), to MCA reps. Marilyn Wannamaker, David Baker, and Janine McAuliffe, in February, 2013.

The MCA has been working hard to build up its funds, and generous recent donations and promised support from community members, businesses, the City, and the Province have made it all possible.  So now, in the next few months, we turn out attention to some beautiful and very functional improvements to the exterior facilities at the community centre.  Watch for ’em!

Spring Comes to the Montgomery Community Garden

Planning is underway for the 2013 season in the Montgomery Community Garden. Garden Sign 2010 copyMembers are renewing membership for the year and new members are joining by filling out a registration form at the Community Association office (also available at the garden page, under the “Get Involved” tab above). This season a membership fee will be levied in order to fund some of the necessary garden costs. The fee of $20/year gives you access to produce from the entire garden – a very economical approach to supplementing your grocery bill! Garden membership entails some responsibilities and agreements which are described in the Garden Guidelines available with the membership form at the Montgomery Association office (and on the garden page).

If you are considering gardening but have little or no experience you will find this group of gardeners welcoming, helpful and appreciative of your efforts. If you are an experienced gardener who would like to join, your knowledge and guidance will be welcomed as well. Gardeners are currently giving feedback about last years planting in order to create this year’s planting plan. If you were not able to attend a meeting yet – you can give your input through Janine in the Community office as you register.

This is a child friendly garden adjacent to a playground so if you have young children, you’ll find the garden a comfortable place to spend time together as a family. There are often children in the garden learning about plants and garden etiquette as they play.

We look forward to your participation in the garden! Please watch the newsletter for ongoing garden news.
